Duration and itinerary: TBD
When you are in Paris and decide to go to Rome, you should resolve to visit the museum on alternate days, to accustom your spirit to feeling such beauty.
Giovanni Battista Piranesi was one of the greatest artists and architects of all time. He left an exceptional legacy to the world, with a series of black and white engravings depicting Rome during the 18th century. His images of Rome are unique and unparalleled, documenting many monuments that now lie in ruins. Through his prints, we come to understand the ideal of the sublime: a grandiose and romantic view typical of the Piranesi approach to ruins.
This tour will give you a guided visit in the “Piranesi style”, with every sight and landscape documented by the engravings of this great master. You can choose an itinerary from among those in the index by specifically requesting the “Rome of Piranesi and other great masters”. During this “dip into the imagery of the past” you will be accompanied, not just by the work of Piranesi, but also by that of the other great print-makers of the period, such as Giuseppe Vasi, Luigi Rossini and Carlo Labruzzi, who all made the concept of “Roma Caput Mundi” so utterly memorable.
